Welcome to east Durham Ishinryu

Our Karate programmes are designed to train our students in the time-honoured traditions of Ishinryu – a tradition of excellence.

Incorporating stances, kicking, punches/strikes, blocks (kihon), forms (kata) and sparring (kumite), Ishinryu practice is not only an exercise for the body, but for the mind as well.

Discipline is the key to success in any pursuit in life, and the Karate can help develop these valuable skills. When the mind works in harmony with the body, it becomes an awesome weapon – but you will develop the confidence to use these skills only as the last means of self-defence.

Whether you’re six or over 60 karate can help you in your life by promoting the four Ds and four Ss:

Discipline, Dedication, Desire and Determination.

Self-confidence, Self-esteem, Self-development and Self-defence.

It is in tournament karate where Ishinryu excels. We have earned an excellent reputation on the national and international tournament circuits as a club of winners. The winning attitude we install in our students positively affects every area of our student’s lives, making them winners, not just in karate, but also in life.

The success of the club can largely be attributed to its instructors’ dedication, commitment, sheer hard work and the genuine belief in what their students do and achieve.

Ishinryu is both a style of karate and an association, which is affiliated to the English Karate Federation (EKF), the British Karate Federation (BKF) and the World Karate Federation (WKF) -the only karate organisation recognised by International Olympic Committee (IOC).

All of our instructors are CRB checked, fully insured, fully licensed and qualified.
