Students will be graded on a regular basis to assess their knowledge, skills and competence on each aspect of the Ishinryu syllabus.

 Grades are recognised by a coloured belt – corresponding to each grade or kyu.

 Beginners (9^th kyu) will start with a white belt. Other grades are as follows:

 8^th KYU – RED

7^th KYU – YELLOW

6^th KYU – ORANGE

5^th KYU – GREEN

4^th KYU – GREEN

3^rd KYU – BLUE

2^nd KYU – BROWN

1^st KYU – BROWN

1^st DAN – BLACK
